Autumnal Temple

Beaming orb of day Climbing the trunks of the trees Illuminating the dawning gold With its heavenwards ascent Each tree stands together Holding this cathedral in its breath Their arching boughs Framing the delicate panes Of backlit stained glass These luminous leaves Of amber and citrine Yet nothing shatters As this living temple sways in exhale It’s just a soft letting go Leaves flutter gently through the air Like moths flying back to the cocoon For another kind of metamorphosis Each leaf finds a resting place Returning to the bosom of the earth
Beaming orb of day
Climbing the trunks of the trees
Illuminating the dawning gold
With its heavenwards ascent
Each tree stands together
Holding this cathedral in its breath
Their arching boughs
Framing the delicate panes
Of backlit stained glass
These luminous leaves
Of amber and citrine
Yet nothing shatters
As this living temple sways in exhale
It’s just a soft letting go
Leaves flutter gently through the air
Like moths flying back to the cocoon
For another kind of metamorphosis
Each leaf finds a resting place
Returning to the bosom of the earth
