Hilltop Lunar Spirits

That full moon’s been coming Rising up from the distant horizon Like some glowing gas giant Dawning over some far away world And it’s almost like it remembers me From some dream in another life So, I sought her each twilight Climbing past the hills that were holding her While she grew in the earth’s shadow Emerging more whole with each spinning turn Like a twirling dancer opening her arms I followed her to this mountain valley That fits her like a round yolk In the bowl of it’s own opened eggshell And I can open here, too Crack a bit Hold this Receive this The gifts of these hilltop lunar spirits The crisp air working into my healing lungs Like a new wind filling my sails The night sky’s true black returns Long forgotten by the city And it’s a clear screen for the dreaming To project my slumbering soul Out for a walk through an astral woodland Leaving my body to rest While some part of me is here Spreading up through the mountain pines And down through the valley oaks Taking up all the soft sage perfume Into my spirit and back home to the Soft sigh of my sleeping nostrils Leaving the sweetness of the earth’s blossoms On my tongue

Rising up from the distant horizon
Like some glowing gas giant
Dawning over some far away world

You will find no reflection here Once you unfix your gaze And look past these darkened irises Into the abyssal pools they frame I don’t blame you if you turn away I’ve done it much of my life To sip from this endless void Is to drown In being whole I spend these years Dropping through this mirror Of my making Still wishing I could draw in A wisp of the ebbing earth’s air Find some way to walk in this world Like I was born into it Yet this mortal flesh is just a breath Of what I truly am To drown here Is just to return to myself

I come here Blue feathered heart on my chest And the jay calls over the horizon As though she remembers How we flew on indigo wings Before the wild took her back Remember how I shattered all the glass bottles But kept the cobalt colored shards Nestled in my ribs Until they burst forth from my flesh as plumes And took flight to the heavens Before returning to me Tamed to my wilderness Returning the call Of her unfettered sisters of the sky
